District Science Officer Job Chart

This summary outlines the guidelines and responsibilities for District Science Officers (DSOs).

*Appointment Criteria:

    The District Educational Officer (DEO) is the authority responsible for appointing a DSO. Candidates must be a Science Teacher (School Assistant cadre) or a Headmaster of a Secondary School with a science background, currently working in Government, local body, or aided schools. 

Additional requirements include:

  * Mastery of science content and methodology.

  * Experience participating in and developing projects for science exhibitions at various levels.

  * Experience organizing science fairs, seminars, or exhibitions.

  * Accessibility to the District Headquarters and the ability to dedicate time to promoting science education beyond regular duties.

  * Computer proficiency (e-mail, internet browsing).

  * Note: The DSO role is an additional responsibility and should not hinder the incumbent's normal academic work.

@    Roles and Responsibilities:

    The DSO acts as the DEO’s representative to organize science and mathematics activities. Responsibilities include:

*General Activities

    Implementing programs from the Department of School Education, SCERT, SSA, and RMSA; liaising between the DEO and various agencies (e.g., TSCOST, NGC); and monitoring science, math, and eco-clubs. DSOs also coordinate training, workshops, and sensitization camps.

  * Specific Activities:

 @    INSPIRE Awards: Conducting motivation camps, orientation programs, and coordinating DLEPC/SLEPC events.

 @    Exhibitions and Programs: Coordinating the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) and the Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Exhibition (JNNSMEE).

 @    Environmental Initiatives: Managing Telangana Ku Haritha Haaram (THHK) tasks—such as plantation planning and coordinating with forest officials—and facilitating National Green Corps (NGC) activities.

@    Events: Conducting science dramas, seminars, and competitions, and organizing events for national and international days related to science, math, and the environment.

 @    Other: Supporting Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat programs and population day activities.
